Pskov and Staraya Russa are ancient Russian cities situates on the North-West of Russian Federation, not far from Velikiy Novgorod. They are notable for their historical significance and old Russian buildings and ancient Russian cathedrals and churches. The first mentions of Pskov and Staraya Russa in chronicles were in the year 903 and in the year 1167 respectively. The town of Pskov lies on the bank of the river Velikaya (Great River) and small river Pskova. The town became important in the Middle Ages as a trade centre between Russia and the Hanseatic cities and Baltic seaports. Staraya Russa is a small historic town in Novgorod region, situated on the place of inflow of the river Porusia into the river Polist’. It is known for its balneological mineral waters resort (that is popular till nowadays) and also the place, where Dostoevsky wrote the main part of its famous novel “The Brothers Karamazov”.
